Every year on April 20th, cannabis enthusiasts around the world celebrate what has become known as “4/20.” This date has become synonymous with cannabis culture, and for many, it’s an important holiday. In this blog post, we’ll explore:

What is 4/20?

The origins of 4/20 are somewhat murky, but the most commonly accepted theory is that it began in California in the 1970s. A group of high school students in San Rafael, California, who called themselves “The Waldos,” used to meet up at 4/20 p.m. to smoke cannabis. The term “420” became their code for cannabis, and they would use it to communicate with each other in front of teachers and parents.

The term eventually spread beyond The Waldos and became a more widely recognized code for cannabis use. In the early 1990s, the Grateful Dead began using the term in their concerts, further popularizing it among their fans. From there, the term became more mainstream, and now it’s recognized around the world as a reference to cannabis culture.

Why is 4/20 “Weed Day?”

While the origins of 4/20 can be traced back to The Waldos and their clandestine cannabis-smoking gatherings, the reason why it’s now celebrate as “Weed Day” is not entirely clear. Some people believe that it’s because 4/20 is Hitler’s birthday and cannabis was used as a form of rebellion against the fascist regime during World War II. However, there is little evidence to support this theory.

Others believe the date was chosen because 4/20 is the police code for cannabis use. But this theory has also been debunked since police codes vary by jurisdiction, and “420” is not used in any known police code. However “Weed Day” became associated with cannabis culture, 4/20 has become a day for cannabis enthusiasts to come together and celebrate their love for the plant.

How do People Celebrate 4/20?

People celebrate 4/20 in a variety of ways. Some people gather with friends and smoke cannabis together while others attend events and festivals dedicated to the plant. Many cannabis dispensaries offer special deals on their products, and people take advantage of these savings to stock up on their favorite strains.

It’s also common for people to indulge in edibles, which are cannabis-infused foods and drinks. Edibles can be a fun and tasty way to consume cannabis, but they should be consumed responsibly as they can be more potent and take longer to take effect than smoking or vaping.

Overall, 4/20 is a day for people to come together and celebrate their love for cannabis. Whether it’s through smoking, attending events, or enjoying edibles, people from all walks of life come together to enjoy the plant.
